So this same little snow man picture that was selected to be hung in the library a few months ago also won Lawson a Rising Star Artist award this year. His artwork was published in a book that contained all the winning entries in the art and writing categories for their school this year. To celebrate these little budding artists and writers, the school hosted an award ceremony evening, where each winner had the chance to stand up on stage and read an excerpt of their writing and/or talk about the artwork they created. Lawson had a huge smile on his face when it was his turn to speak, but he was also pretty nervous and we’re not exactly even sure what he said. We think it was pretty much “I made a snow man and I put stuff on it that I found, and there’s a pencil”.
Piper also entered the contest and made a really amazing drawing of Lovee sitting on the floor, but unfortunately her work wasn’t selected to win for her grade. Still, she was a good sport and she came to the ceremony and was really happy to see her good friend Melanie there (who won for a story she wrote). The kids had a pretty good time that evening, and afterwards we went out for dessert at a local restaurant with Melanie and her family.
