So this whole flag football adventure has been a learning experience for all of us.
A lesson in patience for Mike and me, and the reaffirmation that cold hard cash motivates all.
Saturday Lawson had his last two regular season games. They got trounced in the first game, which was unfortunately against the best team in the league. In between games we told Lawson that he could pick something special if he scored a touchdown or pulled a flag, something he had yet to do all season. It was hard to stick to the bargain when he mentioned “Chuck E Cheese”…I was so hoping he’d just pick another Lego instead, lol. But whatever motivates the kid.
Sure enough – he got a flag. AND he almost scored! He got to run the ball on a 2-pt conversion attempt, and he actually ran around, changed direction, and then plowed straight into two kids waiting right in front of the end zone. He was SO CLOSE!
Using my new lens (thanks hubby!), I got these two awesome shots of the play where Lawson pulled the flag. That’s him on the far left in the image below, in the black shorts with the blue stripe on the side….He’s being blocked by a player from the other team. But the ball carrier for the opposing team, third from the right in this image, is making his way towards Lawson. In the second photo Lawson is on the ground – with the kid’s flag in his hand, as he dove for the flag just seconds before! He was so proud that he pulled a flag, and we were so proud of him. He really enjoyed the whole game and told us he was sad that it was over.
Gramma and Papa were there to watch the games, and Papa put $5 on the line for Lawson if he pulled a flag or scored a touch down. At the end of the game, Lawson went straight for Papa’s hat and cashed in on the offer
